After school the following day, Kiedas and Alanis went to Senior Skate Night at Meadow Beach Roller Rink.  Despite Alanis only being a junior, her friends were mostly seniors and this might be the last time she gets to hang out with them before they head off to college.  Truth be told, she really wanted to tell Kiedas how she felt about him, but they just kept spinning and spinning to old Teena-Marie pop classics.
As the night drew to a close, the DJ came on the mike and announced that Kiedas had a message to a very special friend.
Kiedas pulled her off the rink and confidently asked, "Alanis, will you gp to prom with me?"
FINALLY!
That Saturday night, Kiedas took Alanis to prom and they danced.  It was perfect.

Dinner the next evening however was not.

"I think you and Alanis are spending too much time together."  Kiedas' mother managed to break her heart as she passed the delicious pie to her son.  It was as if she could distract him with the exquisite tartness.

"They just began dating.  It hasn't gotten serious yet, babe."  Kiedas met eyes with Alanis.  His tiltes smile aimed at her was a sign that he was not listening to his parents.

"Mom, Alanis is my best friend and I'm not gonna stop seeing her.  She sleeps above me."

"That's another thing Kiedas, we need to address the sleeping arrangements."

"Why bother mom?  I'm going to college soon.  I'm sick of the this conversation.  Alanis, let's go outside and watch the sunset."

The setting sun frightened her.  She was imaginary by birth and her life forged from a potion.  It would be easy for his mother to reverse the potion.  Sometimes she would lie awake at night waiting to be thrown away or forgotten.  Every morning, Kiedas would hug her and she lived the daytime like each sunrise was her last.  Old habits die hard.

Kiedas interrupted her worries.  "All this land is mine."  She smiled at him.  He was lucky to have a home.  "I want this land to be ours."  She did a double-take.

"What's that mean?"

"You know what it means.  You are the one- you've always been the one, Alanis."  He kissed her.  It was her first.

She whispered, "don't forget me" over and over as they kissed.  He kissed her like it was the last time they's see a sunset together.
